the home of the independent adi ADIs4ADIs

Grumbles from the Gearbox

The dvsa awakens!

The dvsa responds to pressure.

The dvsa return from long absence!
dvsa customer service sets a new low.

The dvsa return after a long absence, and we must congratulate them on finding their address book of all the ADIs and the PDIs on their books who pay them handsomely for their services!

Last week following the statement in Parliament by the leader of the house about the return to work for a million+ people, not only do we receive an email within a couple of days, but we have received a second email this morning on the procedures for the tests.  Thank you dvsa, I knew you could do it, but why-o- why did we have to kick up such a fuss to get you to do it? It is only what you promised us when you went digital, a quicker, cleaner and more efficient notification, we just need you to send it directly to us and not via a third party who represent a minority of ADIs and PDIs. What about all those who do not follow your friends, approximately 25,000+ in number, every single one fails to get the message? ADIs are independent and do not want to be made to join specific groups, they want the freedom to choose or avoid all associations altogether, so why do you seek to deny them this right?.

These new procedures state that the theory test will maintain a 2m+ separation at all times, and yet in the cars we shall have just 0.08m separation which is fine for the driving test it would seem!  Is it any wonder instructors are in a daze at the moment with all the confusing measurements around?  We now know how our pupils feel when trying to work out how far the stopping distances are.

No Entry to Waiting Rooms or Loos!

We and our pupils cannot use the waiting room or the toilet facilities. Heaven help the pupil who gets nervous because if they wet themselves or worse, I for one will not be giving them a lift home in my car.  Will we be discriminating next against people with weak bladders, Crohn's disease, or other disorders, ladies who are pregnant? All candidates will be affected by this decision? The dvsa cannot continue to expect others to provide toilet facilities for their customers.  Will there even be any open in some areas of the UK? The dvsa employees will have their facilities yet the people who pay their wages can go whistle.  This is inhumane treatment, how on earth can they consider that it is an acceptable way to treat their customers?

If an ADI has to wait outside in the cold and get wet, then get a dose of the sniffles they will lose pupils who are afraid of being infected with C19 and lose income, and possibly the pupils. In the autumn or winter when having to stand outside in the cold, wet wind and rain there is the chance of more serious complaints such as pneumonia, hypothermia, and even frostbite.  Will the dvsa, just as Scrooge, did with his employer deny us any warmth and expect us to freeze?

We have lost so many ADIs and new PDIs during this crisis, are the dvsa trying to finish off the industry, who will want to continue under this regime? If the dvsa hierarchy were to close all the loos in all dvsa properties and insist the staff were to have to find a public toilet, and had to spend a couple of hours a week standing outside in the rain with no shelter I could say fair enough, we are on equal ground here and go someway to accepting it but this is all so wrong. The customer gets dumped on again.

Do not arrive more than 5 minutes before a test?  Well there goes getting the car sanitized for the examiner to get in, they will have to do it themselves. We will need at least double that, more like 10 minutes, possibly in the rain with our pupils getting wetter and wetter waiting. At many test centers where there is a carpark the ADI will need at least double that 15-20 minutes time to clean the car due to swapping of seats before we can vacate the site, has this been considered?

Can we use our non-contact thermometers to check examiners are ok and not infect the car we use afterwards *risk assessment*? Will the temporary plastic seat covers they are considering be safe with the airbags, are they going to clean the car after they use it?  So many questions and we are going 'live' from Saturday - when will they let us know?

I fully accept that these are tough and unprecedented times, but if it had all not been left to the last minute like a shotgun wedding this could have run much more smoothly. Almost 4 months and still not ready or, were you not expecting that announcement last week?

You may notice that the dvsa is in lower case, this is not a typo, when they have ADI's respect they will get caps and not before, until then - lower case.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read this and should you see any errors then drop us a line.
Keep safe and keep alert - Lerts live longer.

The DVsA response to recent media criticism about the current test waiting times is to throw in the kitchen sink - but, is this the right solution?

letter to the dvsa from an ADi

Dear dvsa, DVSA thanks for all the recent emails,... keeping us ADIs up to date. I should like to discuss with you a few of the points that you have raised. "It is all our fault (the ADI) that the booking system is in chaos and our fault that candidates are not turning up for the test".
